Wow. This seems like a good time to make note of a few things about how
to post to this list and other internet lists.
(1) I'm dyslexic too, soo I'm not picking on Max for that.
(2) Quoting tons of stuff that other people said is a waste of time and
bandwidth unless it provides an effective context for what you're saying.
Given the choice of having the same stuff quoted over and over again and
not having anybody quoting anybody I think I'd take the latter, but
luckily we don't have only those two choices. So, either delete what the
other guy said completely or pare it down to the bare minimums. Quoting
an entire digest -- with mercifully only two messages since this is a
small list -- is way too much and provides no meaningful context for your
comments.
(3) The subject line became an issue for the same reason. If you get the
digest you've made a choice. That choice is that you get fewer emails
(though not many fewer since its such a light list), but to post you have
to go to extra effort to get things like the subject line right. Its not
rocket science to start a new email instead of replying to the digest and
make sure everything is right.
(4) This effort may be inconvenient in your email enviroment, but it is
far more inconvenience to have hundreds of people guessing what you mean
when there's no meaningful subject. It is far more convenient for the
sender to delete unnecessary information than it is for hundreds to filter
through it to find the heart of the message.
(5) There are plenty of netiquette recommendations and posting guidelines
out there, and if you haven't read them please do. :)
Thanks for everyone's time. Max - sorry for singling you out here, but
you're the straw that broke the camel's back in this case.
